Art ~ Writing ~ Life

Steve Campbell's Blog

Welcome to Art ~ Writing ~ Life. My name is Steve Campbell. I am a semi-retired wildlife and landscape artist, cartoonist, poet, and independent author of fantasy fiction. I created this blog for readers and patrons to learn more about me.

Making art came first in my life when I drew with crayons at a young age. Writing came a few years later when I wrote my first short story in a composition book. I have been writing and illustrating ever since.

I majored in Art at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania. I received a B.A. degree in Art in 1990 and graduated Magna Cum Laude. During college, I taught summer art classes and fell in love with teaching. Since then, I have taught art and writing workshops in my spare time.

I am a wildlife and landscape artist by profession—you can find many pieces of art at this website. Drawing cartoons is another passion. A local newspaper featured my comic strips Louie and Bruce and Conroy’s Corner.

I published some of my written works in newspapers and magazines, as far back as my days in high school.

In 1999, I started featuring my art and writing at a website similar to this one. I called the site My Art, Writing and Life until the webhost went out of business. This led to the creation of this blog in 2011.

I write urban fantasy that I call suburban and sometimes country fantasy, which features a strange place called Myers Ridge, not far from Alice Lake, and in the small town of Ridgewood, Pennsylvania. You can read plenty about these fictional places and their characters here.

My other favorite blog topics besides art and writing are my endeavors as a self-published author, and life. To add more reader interest to this blog, I invited members of the Writer’s Block writing group in Corry, Pennsylvania to participate.

logoI joined the Writer’s Block group in 2002 and was elected to maintain our website. The group soon elected me president—a position I held for nine years. We wrote poetry, news articles, historical documentaries, fiction in every imaginable genre and studied all its facets.

Please enjoy your journey into my world. I look forward hearing from you.

This blog is about Art, Photography, Fiction, bits of Poetry, and Commentary about life.  Honest.  True story.

I’m glad you found my blog and enjoyed your visit, Prasad. In fact, I’m always excited to know that someone wants to stick around and see and read more of what I post. A friend calls it, “The warm fuzzy feeling of knowing that someone appreciates what we do.” Or, as you rightly call it at your blog: the footprints we leave behind. 🙂

I love your art. Solid work. I have all your books on my tablet now. Even though your Vree Erickson stories are YA 13+, I find them perfect for those of us at a higher age level. Keep up the great work!

Are you talking about the link in WordPress’s Reader? I have had the same problem when trying to read other blogs. Type in the address https://artwritinglife.com/2016/02/09/some-random-things-about-me/ if the problem continues.

I do not know why. The only time I had problems visiting WordPress pages was when I had Adblock Plus enabled. Once I turned it off for WordPress, I had no more problems.

If you continue to have problems visiting my blog, Harry, please let WordPress know. https://en.support.wordpress.com/
