Welcome to Art ~ Writing ~ Life. My name is Steve Campbell. I am a semi-retired wildlife and landscape artist, cartoonist, poet, and independent author of fantasy fiction. I am an artist in love with making pictures and writing stories. I keep the two processes of writing and making artwork separate, though I have an inkling to illustrate my writing someday.

Making art came first when I drew on everything with crayons. Writing came later when I wrote my first short story in fourth grade. I have been writing and illustrating ever since. I will share my art and writing at this site, as well as tips and techniques (I have taught workshops for many years).

I am a wildlife and landscape artist by profession. I majored in art at college, received my B.A. degree, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. At college, I taught summer art classes and fell in love with teaching, which began a side career teaching workshops to students, young and old.

Drawing cartoons is another passion. I never pursued syndication, but a local newspaper featured my comics for several years, which became popular with its readers. I will share my favorite ones here in the My Art section.

I am a self-published author. I write fantasy fiction that I call suburban fiction and small-town country fantasy fiction, which features a strange little town that I once called Ridgewood. I have renamed the town Ravenwood (an honor to Edgar Allan Poe). I will share my Ridgewood and Ravenwood stories in the Writing section.

And what is blogging without commentary about life?

This blog has Art, Photography, Fiction, Poetry, and Commentary about my life. Honest. True story.

I hope you enjoy my site and follow me on this journey. I look forward hearing from you.

    1. Thank you and ditto on your blog. I just returned from it and loved the art and science. Good luck on the publication of your book. I like the covers your friend did, very impressive, and I’m looking forward to reading it.

  1. Just happened to run into your blog. You have got a beautiful space running here. Loved some of your write-ups. Its very subtle. I guess I will be hanging around here a lot. 🙂 Great work

    1. I’m glad you found my blog and enjoyed your visit, Prasad. In fact, I’m always excited to know that someone wants to stick around and see and read more of what I post. A friend calls it, “The warm fuzzy feeling of knowing that someone appreciates what we do.” Or, as you rightly call it at your blog: the footprints we leave behind. 🙂

  2. I love your art. Solid work. I have all your books on my tablet now. Even though your Vree Erikson stories are YA 13+, I find them perfect for those of us at a higher age level. Keep up the great work!

    1. Thanks for bringing the problem to my attention, Harry. I had problems visiting WordPress pages when I had Adblock Plus enabled in my browser. Once I turned it off for WordPress, I had no more problems. If you have Adblock enabled, you may want to turn it off when visiting WordPress.

    1. I have a similar situation. My brother died a few years ago. He was my best friend. I used to paint wildlife pictures for him; he was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. I was too. God spoke loudest there. Being close to nature and making art has always been therapeutic.
Thank you for liking my blog.
